My bets are that you are logged into your X session as some normal
user, did a "su" in an xterm, then as root, ran "linuxconf". If such is
the case, then I've found two solutions to work for me.
1. Run "linuxconf --text" from your xterm. (easiest)
2. "ssh -l root localhost" and then run linuxconf.
3. "xhost +localhost; su ; linuxconf.
Option 3 is the least secure of all. Option 1 is (imho) the best
solution, as you don't have to worry about GTK versions, X displays or any
of that, you just get what you want (linuxconf); plus, the interface is
consistent with what you get from the console.
