I don't have either (I am still dialup) but here goes....
First of all, DSL is a subset of Broadband, so I assume you are talking
about DSL vs. Cable.
Cable has a potential throughput of 2.7Mbps in our area, DSL tends to hang
around 384kbps.
The 384kbps of DSL is all yours. The 2.7Mbps of cable you share with your
neighbours. If you share a segment with ten neighbours, and all are on at
once, DSL is faster. If you catch it at a time when they are all off, you
can use the full 2.7Mbps and it will be faster than DSL.
384kbps is fast. For the most part, the difference between this and
2.7Mbps will probably not be important.
A given provider of either type of service will fall into one of three
categories:
1. Supports Linux
2. Doesn't support Linux, but uses nothing Win* specific
3. Uses something Win* specific.
Make sure your provider falls into category 1 or 2.
If they put a router on your premises, that is ideal.
Good luck!
