I've been pondering the xDSL vs. cable thing myself, planning to go one way
or the other over the next few months. I plan to connect with an ipchains
firewall and masquerade or not, depending on whether I get a range of IP
addresses or just one.
Call me stupid if you like (allright, not everyone at once, now!), but one
of the things that I like about cable modems is that you could choose to
offer services to your own cable neighborhood, such as an open-source
distribution mirror, ircd, streaming a/v, etc.
Do any of you do this yourselves or know someone who does? I'd be curious
to know people's experiences.
