That's the basics of the typical installation of Sendmail... The
use of procmail to deliver locally is optional as there are a couple of
alternatives but you have the basic picture correct...

You'll actually have to have a POP3 or IMAP daemon in order to
make use of those protocols... I'd actually recommend POP3 over IMAP
unless you have the IMAP port blocked at your ingress point as there have
historically been security issues with IMAP daemons (in particular with
a certain distribution I don't use)... I actually use the gnu-pop3d for
POP3 on my machines as it supports PAM and allows me to hold my user
account information in LDAP rather than /etc/passwd but there are several
good POP3 daemons out there (cucipop & qpopper for starters)... When it
comes to IMAP there's a couple out there but I don't follow them much as
I try to stay away from them...
