This is an old datapoint, but Sun dropped _all_ C compilers out of early
Solaris releases - not even the minimal, 'brain-dead', pre-K&R model. It
was necessary to find a binary somewhere to even bootstrap GCC. Cygnus had
an archive of "starter" GCC binaries for Solaris, HP-UX, and others --
this was sometimes essential to getting going. (Thanks, Cygnus.)
Hence I would be pleasantly surprised if the answer to your question is
'yes'.
