This is related to a question I asked earlier today.
I wish to re-compile a kernel, after making a tiny alteration
to one of the source files. However, I don't wish to make
any other changes to the kernel, via "make config". Are
the defaults exactly what was utilized when my current
binary was created?
I would
like the kernel to be basically identical to the one that
shipped w/ the distribution, with the exception of the tiny
alteration of one of the source files. This alteration
fixes an irritating problem with my Synaptics glide pad
on my laptop.
The reason I am asking is that my system is working perfectly,
but on the last two attempts at re compiling my kernel, to
fix my irritating glide pad problem, resulted in my
PCMCIA failing when I attempted to use the new kernel.
The PCMCIA howto left me a little bewildered as to what the
problem was.
Any hints appreciated.
I am using the new 7.0 Mandrake distribution on a
Compaq 1688 Presario laptop.
