Try pointing your whois client at the Geektools Whois
Proxy(whois.geektools.com). It makes a pretty good stab at looking at
your query and directing it to the appropriate whois server. This is
also available via the web(http://www.geektools.com/whois.html). The
code for the Whois proxy itself is also
available(http://www.geektools.com/software.html) so you can install it
on your own computer.
