it'll tell you where the master information is kept, for example
whois.networksolutions.com
a good example of this:
$ whois valinux.com
[... snip ...]
Domain Name: VALINUX.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: KASHMIR.FDT.NET
Name Server: NS1.VARESEARCH.COM
Updated Date: 10-jan-1999
[... snip ...]
$ whois ">valinux.com@whois.networksolutions.com
[... snip ...]
Registrant:
VA Research Inc. (VALINUX-DOM)
1235 Pear Ave #111
Mountain View, CA 94043
US
Domain Name: VALINUX.COM
[... snip ...]
etc etc. :)
you've always had to do that with non .com/.org/.net etc domains.
