Your /etc/inetd.conf file is telling inetd to monitor the "auth" port (the ident
service), but the port is already being monitored (likely by an identd daemon).
Either you have the identd daemon starting on boot-up, or else it's not going
away after inetd starts it. If it's the latter, then I would double-check the
relevant line in inetd.conf to make sure all the parameters and options are
reasonable/compatible.
I don't use the ident service, but if it's any help, here's my (commented out)
line from inetd.conf:
#auth stream tcp nowait nobody /usr/sbin/in.identd in.identd -l -e -o

Subject:        [ale] auth/tcp: bind: messages - How to stop them?
This is the message I started getting in the /var/log/messages file. I can't
track it down. Any ideas how I can locate the cause?
Jan 11 22:04:16 server inetd[430]: auth/tcp: bind: Address already in use
