And for the grand finale...

I force rpm'd the previously used version of modutils and recompiled. 

Sndconfig found my soundcard properly and my sound came back (whew). 

ZIP disk support is returned also.

Still, has anyone used modutils-2.3.9-1.i386.rpm??
