This is caused because wu-ftpd actually chroot's to the guest
directory which does not contain the bin, lib or etc directories... If
you copy those three directories from ~ftp to the guest home dir it should
display properly then... Mainly the lib is need'd but the fake etc contains
a passwd file which can be used so the display of ls doesn't just show UID
numbers...
For me I found it too much trouble and instead went with ProFTPd...
