I don't believe that this is what he is asking for. Samba only
works over TCP/IP and does not work over Netbui even if you have a system
that supports Netbui (SCO?).

Netbui is the low level Microsoft networking transport. It's a
low level protocol ala tcp/ip or spx/ipx. There has been some discussion
a long time ago on the samba mailing lists by some people who were asking
about doing a netbui implimentation. I think there was some talk a couple
of years or so ago in one of the Linux lists (linux-kernel or linux-net) as
well. It does not run over IP (or IPX) but is its own transport.
Whenever the discussion of Netbui comes up, the next immediate
question has to be WHY? Netbui is a non-routable proprietary protocol
which even Microsoft is dropping support for. I'm not sure if Windows 2000
even supports (probably does - bad eggs just never go away) but it's no
longer the protocol of choice even for Windows systems and hasn't been for a
couple of years now. I certainly wouldn't bet that newer features are going
to work reliably across Netbui. With Windows 2000, Microsoft is moving
toward Kerberos authentication and DNS name resolution. The DNS name
resolution in particular is likely to raise compatibility issues in
environments with Netbui and workstations with non-conforming names
running. Disclaimer - this isn't really an inherent problem with Netbui,
I just don't think they'd be able to get all the bugs worked out of a
deprecated configuration like that.
Last time I have record of any discussion over Netbui dates back
to mid 1998. Support for Netbui was already dropped by Microsoft even
way back then.
It's an old deprecated protocol that many people would just a soon
put out of it's misery with a stake through its heart.
