Title: Puppet Developer

Type of Placement: Contract - 1 year +, Potential contract to hire


Reason for the need: Lead the process for the conversion from Opsware to Puppet. Currently using Enterprise Puppet, not open source. The project they'll be working on is converting modules from Opsware to Puppet.

Team Structure:   Puppet, Opsware and Spacewalk guys



What this group does: Automation team - responsible for automating, deploying, and updating servers for Home Depot store



What this person will do: Lead process for conversion from Opsware to Puppet.


Top technical skills:
1. Designing Processes around Puppet
2. Doing puppet development/conversion experience (this person will be converting from OpsWare to Puppet)
Absolute MUSTS for this role:

1.       BASH Scripting

2.       Experience working as a Linux/Redhat Systems Admin or Engineer

3.       Experience building customized Templates for Puppet

4.       Experience writing Puppet Modules

5.       Puppet 3.0+ Automation

6.       Puppet Enterprise is good to have but NOT required - Patrick only had Opensource Puppet prior to the Home Depot environment

Top 3 Soft Skills:

1.       Communication  - will need to communicate with other team members to let them know whether or not something will work

2.       This is an extremely intense and complex environment so they need to be comfortable with that.

3.       They must have a thirst for knowledge and be a quick learner


"Nice to have" Skills:

*         REALLY likes a RANGE of experience - application deployment, server deployment, upgrade deployments - had to leverage RPM builds, how to leverage his own code, etc. had a clear direction

*         Opsware experience would be great, but will mainly just need to follow the process laid out and drive conversion
